2 Day Professional Diploma in Indian Head Massage

Course Description

The Two day Diploma Course is designed for those practitioners who wish to gain an understanding of the principles and practise of Indian Head Massage. Successful completion of the course, case studies and practical and theory exams leads to a Professional Diploma in Indian Head Massage.


Course Structure

1. 2 day classroom attendance

2. Home Study, Worksheet and Case History Practise. 3. Practical Assessment (approximatley four weeks after Level 2)Each part of the course is described in detail below

Day 1
The course is mostly practically based and incorporates the following elements;
The history, development and background to Indian Head Massage.
Screening and Contra-indications
Treatment .Preparation

Indian Head Massage techniques:
Effleurage
Petrissage
Percussion
Compression
Holds
Passive Movements

Home Study and Worksheet Completion

Between the course and the practical exam, students are required to carry out home study and complete Worksheets on the following topics:

Revision of Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology relevant to Indian Head Massage
Origins and traditions of Indian Head Massage (Ayurveda)
Indian Head Massage Theory and Practise

Students are advised on the course as to the amount and type of revision necessary. The Worksheets, designed as short answer “mock” written questions, also provide clear guidance as to the subject matter and depth of knowledge required.

Documented Case Histories

Between the course and the Practical Assessment (the Practical Assessment is approximately 2 to 6 weeks after the course) students are required to complete a minimum of twenty five fully documented Case Histories in total, on a minimum of five different people. Case History Completion Sheets and Guidance Notes are provided on the course.



Day 2
The following elements are included in day 2.
Written Assessment (One hour)
Revision and refinement of the practical techniques learnt on day 1
Managing client consultations
Customizing treatments.

Assessment

Assessment is carried out in three ways:
1. A one hour short answer written paper is completed on day 2.
2. Student Worksheets and Case History Documentation are assessed.
3. A Practical Assessment is arranged during day 2 and taken between 2 and 6 weeks after Level 2. The cost of the Practical Asesment is £30.

Course Material

Every student is provided with a manual including text, photographs and diagrams. The manual provides all the information needed to complete the course and acts a reference book after the course has been completed.

We also recommend the purchase of the text book "Indian head Massage (Second Edition)" by Helen McGuiness

Accreditation

A Professional Diploma in Indian Head Massage from the Academy of On Site Massage is awarded to all students who successfully pass the Assessment criteria.

Entry Requirements

Applicants must hold, or be studying towards, a professional bodywork qualification including an Anatomy and Physiology element.
